2013 GFC Middle School Results

Oct 24th: North Georgia win GFC Middle School league with victory over Cornerstone Prep

The North Georgia Falcons are the 2013 GFC Middle School Champions defeating Cornerstone Prep 8-6. Neither team was able to do much offensively in the first half. In the 3rd quarter, The Falcons began to move the ball and finally scored on a hand off from QB Sean Duffy to RB Jackson Lee who ran it in for a TD. The 2-point attempt was good on a run by running back Jude Downs putting the Falcons up 8-0.

That score caused the energy and momentum to shift to the side of North Georgia. The defense caused fumbles, made interceptions, sacked the QB and did all they could to thwart every effort the Cougars made to get a score.

Finally, Cornerstone’s QB Barry Francis was able to find a gap in the Falcons defense and scramble for a long touchdown run in the fourth quarter, but the Falcons defense stopped RB Noah Stere short of the goal on the 2-pt attempt to keep the Falcons ahead 8-6. The Falcons defense was led by Grant Gay, Jonathan Jumper, Joseph Fazzio and Gadi Gonzalez.

The 4th quarter saw the Falcons in scoring position several more times but turnovers plagued their opportunities. The Falcon defense held strong crashing through the Cougar offensive line over and over, putting so much pressure on the QB that the Cougars could not find a way to score again!

With 1:27 left in the game, Grant Gay caught an interception and the Falcons owned the night!

The Falcons travelled to Hiawassee to take on the public school middle school team from Towns County. On the Falcons first possession QB Thomas Gilbert had his pass intercepted and run back for a touchdown to give Towns the lead. The 2 point conversion was good making the score Towns 8 NG 0. On the next possession, Falcon running back Cameron Hembree was hit and fumbled with Towns recovering the ball. A few plays later Towns scored to go up 14-0. It looked bad for the Falcons, but they started to play better and managed to move the ball especially just before halftime when Gilbert hooked up with Jake Howard for a 40 yard completion down to the 8 yard line. The Falcons ran several plays and were on the goal line, however, Towns stopped the Falcons on 4th down to keep the Falcons from scoring. The half ended 14-0.

On the first possession of the 2nd half, Towns was able to compete a touchdown pass and go up 22-0. A few possession later, Towns again scored on a long pass to go up 30-0. North Georgia MS loses to Anderson Cavaliers MS 28-8

The Falcons MS started the game strong as they scored first on a long Josh Warren touchdown of 65 yards on their first possession, however, after that the Cavaliers were able to shut down the Falcons and begin their comeback. The Cavaliers scored early in the 2nd quarter to tie the score at 8-8 and that is the way the first half ended. In the 3rd quarter, the Falcons were driving but a pitchout to the running back was fumbled and caught in the air by a Cavalier defender who took it in for a touchdown. This gave the Cavaliers the lead. The Cavaliers next score came of a mishandled Falcon snap on a punt that the punter had to fall on, giving Anderson great field position. Finally the Cavaliers were successful on a pass play where the wide receiver got behind a Falcon cornerback, caught the ball and ran in for the score.
